Jo-Anne Ryan is Associate Professor of Accounting at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, and Chair of the Accounting Department within the Faculty of Management (beginning January 1, 2021). She is also a resident of Barrie. She teaches accounting and assurance courses, from introductory to advanced. She has an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from Laurentian University and is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Accountant (Ontario), having articled with KPMGLLP. She earned a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Jo-Anne has over 20 years of experience in the classroom. She works closely with CPA Ontario and CPA Canada in various capacities. She has been a reviewer for the CPA Preparation Courses (PREP) and the National Facilitator for their Assurance Module within PREP. She has received several awards for excellence in teaching and publishes cases in financial accounting and assurance. Her academic research focuses on the use of investor relations websites to transmit accounting information to stakeholders and the impact of emerging technologies on organizations, auditors, and education.
